Job description

This is a rare chance to work for a global leader in the research & development of cryptocurrency technology and to build one of the leading patent positions in the blockchain space. While not a start-up, they are a dynamic business and working environment, this is definitely an exciting time to be joining the company.

The Patent Counsel role would suit those who would like to experience, or continue to experience, working in-house in a global business. You will work with a team small enough to provide broad exposure to, and significant responsibility for creating and exploiting commercially valuable IP assets. Ideally you will be a recently qualified European Patent Attorney, but they would also consider those who are part-qualified attorneys or who are finalists.

- Understanding the cutting-edge technology behind the patent portfolio
- Liaising directly with the R&D team, project teams, and external collaborators to identify inventions and to determine how best to protect them
- Coordinating external patent counsel on patent filing, prosecution, and oppositions
- Evaluating third-party IP opportunities and risks
- Creating presentations and written content about the company's intellectual property assets

You will ideally be a qualified European Patent Attorney with around 1 - 2 years of post-qualification experience. We would also consider those that are part-qualified or a finalist. You should have a hi-tech technical background - either in the fields of computer science, electronics, physics, or mathematics.
A Keen interest in learning about Bitcoin, blockchain, and related areas of technology would be advantageous.
Experience in international patent prosecution across multiple jurisdictions and ideally experience in open-source licensing issues and IP audits.
An ability to undertake patent drafting, global prosecution, and European opposition matters, plus to undertake and evaluate patent-landscape opinions.
