Our client is one of the largest plastics, chemicals, and refining companies in the world. They produce materials and products that are key to advancing solutions to modern challenges like enhancing food safety, packaging, purity of water supplies, and fuel efficiency, among others. They recently appeared on a list of “most admired companies” for the fourth consecutive year.  

They are hiring a European Patent Attorney to be based out of their German facility. There is the option of some remote working, to be agreed, but you will need to be within travelling distance of the offices.  

Ideally, you will be a newly-qualified European patent attorney, however those close to this level are also encouraged to apply. Equally, if you are a few years post qualified and looking for a change in career this could be a good step up for you. The German national patent attorney qualification would be a bonus but is not expected. 

The Role:

You will cover A to Z of portfolio management, working closely with the given area of technology and having responsibility working very closely R&D and the investors, capturing, harvesting, and advising on all aspects of IP, and having some involvement in contentious matters. 

You will also be looking after all aspects portfolio management, drafting, prosecution, oppositions, appeals, FTO, and some supporting of the licensing department (from a technical perspective). 

Your profile:

Ideally a qualified European patent attorney with a technical / academic background in either chemical, chemical engineering / process technology related to production (polyolefin, polymers, etc.). You must be able to work independently and draft, file, and conduct FTO’s. 

You should be an effective and persuasive communicator, able to operate at all levels and cross functional teams internationally within a fast-moving environment. Our client is a diverse and inclusive employer so respect for others is hugely important 

German language skills would be advantageous, but this is not a necessity.
