We are exclusively representing a global medical technology business focused on devising, developing and manufacturing innovative products and services that support people with deeply personal and challenging medical conditions, helping to improve care for them and giving them greater confidence, freedom and mobility.

This is a home-working role from anywhere in the UK, provided the individual is prepared to travel into the company headquarters when needed (infrequently). Travel costs will be covered.

Job Summary

An opportunity for you to join their global IP team as a trainee or part-qualified/ EP Patent Attorney during a time of transformation and growth across the business. The position is a new role and the next stage of the growth and development of the in-house function. You will be a part of the growing Intellectual Property (IP) team, who provide the IP advice necessary to research and commercial teams in the UK, Denmark and USA on a wide variety of patent, trademark and agreement related matters and over a wide variety of STEM disciplines.  

The ideal candidate will be capable of interacting comfortably with personnel at all levels within the company from both the technology and commercial environment, as well as providing instruction to external (IP) law firms. In terms of technical background, the position can be adapted to suit your technical background, but you will have an interest in growing your competence and knowledge of mechanical devices. You may also have some experience of electrical engineering or software, but this is not essential.

However you must have:

- Possess an excellent educational background to degree level or preferably beyond (a Doctorate would be advantageous) in Mechanical, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics.

- Should have a minimum of 6 months of experience in the IP industry undertaking patent attorney work.

In the role from day 1 you will be exposed to a full range of IP related matters including drafting patent, global prosecution including instructing patent associates thereon, opposition and appeal, freedom to practice, portfolio management, and R&D contracts (non-disclosure, joint venture, consulting, collaboration).
